60 former, current employees plan to sue Google over workplace culture

Google employees will gather for a town hall meeting Thursday afternoon to discuss the tensions ignited by a memo circulated inside the company that claimed to explain why more women are not engineers.

News of the possible lawsuit comes in the aftermath of a 10-page anti-diversity manifesto authored by Google employee James Damore, which left Silicon Valley reeling. Others say it is hard to openly discuss diversity issues at the company because of a liberal bias among managers and colleagues at Google, a unit of Alphabet Inc.

The software engineer fired for writing an internal memo critical of diversity hiring policies at the company faces an uphill battle legally challenging his termination, but he could succeed in prolonging the controversy, potentially driving the tech firm to settle, legal experts said on Tuesday.

Damore said in the email he was exploring his legal options. In terms of disclosure, my own views tend to be socially liberal and fiscally conservative. Damore has already filed a charge with the National Labor Relations Board- and spoke on Bloomberg television defending himself- saying he feels hurt and betrayed by Google- that he was trying to improve Google's culture. Executives fielded a variety of questions over the hourlong meeting but none of the questions were in support of Mr. Trump's victory. But she added she had heard from conservative employees who "haven't felt entirely comfortable revealing who they are".
