"Met Vice President & gave in writing that we have elected RCP Singh as our leader in Rajya Sabha", state JD-U president Vashishtha Narayan Singh was quoted as telling news agency ANI.

Mr Singh is a trusted lieutenant of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He will replace Sharad Yadav, who was removed by the party leadership. Raising a banner of revolt against Nitish's decision to partner with the BJP once again, Yadav announced a three-day yatra in Bihar beginning from Thursday to assess mood of the people in the state.

Earlier, Sharaad Yadav made it clear that he is still with the Grand Alliance of the RJD and Congress and that the mandate was given to the Grand Alliance and not the BJP. He made it clear that the JD (U) has already chose to align with the BJP. "Sharad Yadav-led faction is the real JD-U while the other one has become a "Sarkari JD-U" and Bharatiya JD-(U)", Ansari said while briefing mediapersons.

JD (U) has finally started taking decisions against Sharad Yadav, one of the foundation pillars of the party, who has now turned anti-JD (U). "He [Sharad Yadav] has not been removed from the JD (U)", party leader Vasishtha Narayana said.

Meanwhile, BJP president Amit Shah today said in a tweet that he had invited Kumar to formally join the NDA. "Kumar's decision to align with the BJP is unacceptable", Ansari said. "However it will take time and it might delay cabinet reshuffle also as the party will try to replace Sharad Yadav and Ali Anwar with new members in the Rajya Sabha".

He added that this was not personal fight against Nitish Kumar but a fight of principles and to save democracy and brotherhood. We are not going to get cowed down by such threats.

Party sources said if Yadav, who has been invited to attend the national executive meeting, continues to speak against Nitish, he could be suspended soon. But we will not be attending it, "he said".
