Woman lucky to be alive after auto plummets seven storeys


A driver has survived a frightening plunge after driving her vehicle off the edge of a seven-storey auto park in Texas.

Surveillance video captured the moment a vehicle plunged seven stories off the side of a parking garage in Texas.

Police said the woman driving the BMW mistook the gas pedal for the brakes and crashed through the parking garage barriers.

The video, released Thursday, shows the vehicle bouncing off the pavement into a Chevrolet Tahoe SUV, then rolling upside down in the alley. The woman driver is said to recovering from her injuries.

The incident happened on July 13, with the Austin Police Department releasing the footage on Thursday. Amazingly, the driver of the falling auto survived, according to the Austin Statesman.

The owner of the Littlefield Garage, located at 508 Brazos St., said these were the only two incidents of this kind they've experienced.

Water-filled barriers have been put in place as temporary safeguards on all the floors while the property owner files an extension to redesign the whole cable system.

The seventh floor, where the July incident happened, is now fenced off with caution tape.
