The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Keita had been one of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp's primary targets this summer, but Leipzig have been refusing to sell.

The reds summer long pursuit of RB Leipzig midfielder, and Guinean worldwide Naby Keita, is over after the club have agreed to pay the £48M release clause, plus an undisclosed addition.

Keita's release clause next summer is £48 million, which The Reds are willing to pay.

Times correspondent Paul Joyce has claimed on his personal Twitter account that the Merseysiders have agreed a club-record deal with RB Leipzig for the central midfielder. The 22-year-old was said to have undergone a medical on Monday (28 August) and will officially join on 1 July next year.

The fact they'd already lost so many stars had been muted as the reason for Arsenal's failed attempt to sign Lemar earlier this summer, meaning Liverpool would be firmly gazumping the Gunners by snaring the Frenchman.

Do you think signing Keita for next season is a good deal for Liverpool?

If Barcelona were to sign Keita they could feasibly use him as a bargaining chip to persuade Liverpool to finally part with Coutinho next summer.

RB Leipzig finished second behind Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga last season, meaning they qualified for the Champions League group stage.

The move comes as Liverpool are reported to have made a bid to make Thomas Lemar their record transfer.
