"Today, Vice President Pence said", President Trump sent us here to say we are with you.

Pence is joining with state and local officials and community members in Rockport, Texas, which was severely damaged by the storm.

The group then traveled to the small coastal town of Rockport, Texas, one of the first areas hit by Harvey, to visit with Texans facing the aftermath of the storm at the First Baptist Church of Rockport.

Speaking with Governor Greg Abbott, Pence indicated he had spoken to the president earlier that day.

The Cabinet secretaries and the vice president joined Graham in prayer, bowing their heads along with about 100 people from local congregations.

At another stop down the road in Rockport, Pence rolled up his sleeves as he met with victims of the storm whose homes were badly damaged.

The church is no stranger to helping relief victims. "Lakewood's doors are open and we are receiving anyone who needs shelter ". Meanwhile, one Twitter user actually went outside and took video showing that there was no flooding surrounding the church.

Pence says the Trump administration is "with you and we will stay with you until Rockport and all of southeast Texas come back".

Pence is traveling with the secretaries of labor, transportation, energy and veterans affairs along with the acting DHS secretary. Harvey's 52 inches of rain set the record for the heaviest tropical downpour ever recorded in the continental United States. Residents of Rockport were among the first in the USA hit by Harvey.

The visit comes just two days after President Trump visited Corpus Christi and Austin, meeting with state and local officials but foregoing any tour of damage or in-person meetings with those now homeless because of Harvey.

Harvey made landfall last Friday as a Category Four Hurricane.

Pence announced the planned trip Tuesday in an interview with Corpus Christi, Texas radio station KKTX.

The vice president announced his Texas visit during a speech in West Virginia, according to news outlets in his entourage.
