Terry Myerson, Microsoft's EVP of Windows and Devices Group announced today at IFA 2017 that the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update will be released worldwide on October 17.

Windows Mixed Reality: Windows Mixed Reality headsets will be available on October 17 starting at $299. The biggest change? It'll give us our first taste of Windows Mixed Reality, the company's VR platform that's powered by affordable headsets from the likes of Dell, HP, Lenovo and ASUS.

Lenovo's Mixed Reality headset is called The Explorer, which seems fitting given that by using the headset you'll be able to explore a wide range of different content from games to media.

Unlike the current crop of headsets, the new Mixed Reality VR headsets will boast an impressive 1440p resolution per eye, up from the 1080p standards of the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, and far exceeding the 960p standards of the PSVR. The Fall edition of this Creators Update is the 2nd installment major update for Windows 10 after the April one.

Microsoft's focus on mixed reality as its terminology for the broad spectrum of devices and companion software is quite forward thinking, as UploadVR highlights, but it does mean we're left in the dark when it comes to specifics.
