Alabama's fourth offensive series began with a new face at quarterback as Tua Tagovailoa got his first action with 10:35 left in the second quarter. He capped the drive with a 16-yard touchdown strike to fellow true freshman Henry Ruggs. They also held Alabama to two short field goals in the second half, including once after the Crimson Tide started inside the 5-yard line after an interception.
Tagovailoa did finally get the offense moving on the Tide's final drive of the game against Fresno's defensive backups.
Losing four linebackers to injury in the opening game (two for the season, two indefinitely) surely impacted Alabama's ability to get to the quarterback.
"Starting the game out fast like that was a good sign for us", Harris said.
