The University of Iowa moved up two spots to No. 31 in the latest rankings of the nation's best public universities published by U.S. News & World Report. UCLA was ranked No. 1 for economic diversity among the top 25-ranked universities, based on number of UCLA undergraduate students receiving Pell Grants (37 percent).
The undergraduate program at the Wisconsin School of Business is ranked 15th overall in a six-way tie, up from 19th last year and is seventh among public doctoral institutions, up from ninth last year. BU tied with Purdue University-Northwest in Hammond, Ind.
"We know that rankings don't tell the whole story of an institution, but it is gratifying to see USC moving in the right direction in some important quality measures", says USC Provost Joan Gabel. It's ranked 20th among public universities.
Hampton University ranked third on the list, behind Spelman and Howard respectful. In August, HPU was named to "The Best 382 Colleges: 2018 Edition" for its academic programming, as well as positive survey responses and feedback from students, parents and higher education leaders across the country. The rankings focus on academic excellence and emphasize student outcomes, with graduation rate and freshmen retention carrying 30 percent of the weight. High school counselor ratings of colleges are also factored in the National Universities and National Liberal Arts Colleges rankings. SUNY Geneseo, at No. 11, up three spots from a year ago, was the highest ranked Western New York school in the North region. Apart from Tezpur University, only IIT Guwahati (placed in the 601-800 range) is placed in the top 1,000 from the Northeast.

Chinese-owned manufacturer Volvo also said earlier this year that it will put electric motors in all its new cars from 2019. Chinese-owned carmaker Volvo said in July that all its new vehicle models would have an electric motor from 2019.
U.S. News deemed 50 institutions as "Best Colleges for Veterans", with Misericordia getting highest local honors at 23rd.
Tulane is also ranked 24th among the "Most Innovative Schools". "A successful education depends more on finding an institution that best fits a student's needs and goals than upon any statistical formula".
According to its website, the U.S. News ranking system "uses exclusively statistical quantitative and qualitative measures that education experts have proposed as reliable indicators of academic quality, and it is based on U.S. News' researched view of what matters in education". That's up five spots from previous year in the overall rankings and two spots among public universities.
