If the iTunes app is open, your Mac will tell you that the installation can not proceed until you close iTunes.

It's no longer a place for Apple users to get apps, instead, they would have to rely on the iOS App Store.

Apple on Tuesday released iTunes 12.7 for Mac and Windows, an update that removes the iOS App Store from the desktop software. The update can also be downloaded by iPad touch 6 Gen users.

If you're an avid Kodi user then the app has probably become an essential "must-have" app on your iPhone or iPad.

The iTunes 12.7 update is around 209 MB in size and Apple has said that the update focuses on music, movies, TV shows, podcasts and more.

In the name of simplification and clarity, Apple has also moved the iTunes U content in the Podcast section and the Internet Radio stations in your music library's sidebar. The Windows version removes the Books section, too.

Fortunately, iOS users will not have to wait for a long time before they can install the iOS 11's final version on their compatible iPhones and iPads.

On your Mac, launch the App Store app in your Applications folder.

Apple had been at the receiving end of criticism for making iTunes bloated and heavy with the integration of the app store.

The installation will take a few minutes.

Apps: Looking for your past iOS app downloads?

Although the beta is not the complete version of the upgrade and new features could be added before now and general release, it does give a good idea of what it's like to live with iOS 11 on a daily basis.

For most people, though, it is the loss of the App Store which is the biggest surprise in iTunes 12.7.
