Knifeman tries to slit soldier's throat on Paris metro

A man with a knife was immediately arrested after attacking a soldier at the Chatelet subway station in central Paris at about 6:30 a.m. Friday morning.

The soldier was with the Sentinelle force assigned to protect prominent sites after deadly Islamic extremist attacks in recent years.

Two women were injured on Friday by an attacker wielding a hammer and shouting Allahu Akbar in the eastern French town of Chalon-sur-Saone in Burgundy, local officials said.

The attacker was not previously known to police, a source said. The assailant had also threatened passersby before targeting the three police officers, according to BFM TV.
