Winners and losers in the Alabama Senate race

"He invoked it during his many attempts to convince voters to back Strange, telling a crowd in Huntsville that "[Luther Strange] knows the true source of America's strength - it's God, it's family and it's country".

And they did. At around 8 p.m. with 13% of precincts reporting, Moore led odd by 17 points.

Strange, who had the backing of the NRA and Trump, who adopted the gun lobby's views during his campaign, vowed to support Trump's agenda to take on the establishment and advance conservative issues. "I congratulate Roy Moore on the result this evening", unusual said in a statement. Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell backed odd, and an establishment PAC reportedly spent $10 million on his campaign - but as the GOP primary runoff Tuesday drew nearer, unusual ultimately couldn't catch up to Moore, who was consistently in the lead.

"Congratulations to Roy Moore on his Republican Primary win in Alabama". The race was called shortly after the polls closed, with Moore beating odd 57% to 43%. "Roy, WIN in Dec!"

However, the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics, a watchdog organization, is now calling Trump out for deleting the tweets, claiming that he is in violation of the Presidential Records Act.

"There's one you don't see up here [on stage], and let me just tell you, He's done more for my campaign than anybody - and that's almighty God", Moore said to a raucous crowd. A Trump tweet congratulating Roy Moore, the anti-establishment candidate that beat unusual, also disappeared, though it was reposted later in the night. The optics of him appointing unusual, who as the state attorney general was investigating possible misuse of his office to cover up the alleged affair with an aide, greatly hurt odd in the race with Moore, according to several local observers.

The result, though, is an embarrassing setback for Trump that highlights the deep divisions within his party and raises questions about its future direction as the GOP heads toward mid-term elections in 2018. In its decision suspending Moore from office yet again, the Court of the Judiciary found him guilty of failing to comply with the law. Of the figures of the "trumpisme" supporting judge Moore, starting with Steve Bannon, ex-advisor to the president ousted in August from the White House.

Alabama political reporters: The special general election between Moore and Jones has at least the potential to be competitive. Already Republicans aiming to emulate his insurgent bid are taking heart from Moore's win. But he also trumpets more recent and widespread aspects of modern Christian nationalism.

He didn't resurrect his Ten Commandments monument, but when the United States Supreme Court issued a ruling in 2015 legalizing gay marriage, Moore ordered state judges to defy it and instead enforce the state's ban on same-sex marriage. Alabama citizens certainly list religion as one of their most important values, and candidates from both parties in the state realize that and try to use it to their advantage.

"From the beginning of this campaign, my priority has been serving the people of Alabama".

We need to stop Roy Moore. "I will never embarrass the people of Alabama".

Moore overcame a barrage of negative television advertisements from forces aligned with McConnell. Law says Moore "has our support, as it is vital that we keep this seat in Republican hands".
