Vets Taking Stand on Kneeling

And for the first time as American citizens we stood with our hands on our hearts honoring the American flag and the American national anthem ... The pride was vast and the joy was unlimited. They say they are not protesting the flag.

The past few weeks or months have seen diverse opinions on what taking the #Knee by pro-NFL players, team owners and fans means. Colin Kaepernick started this revolution in the middle of last season, and at the time he was seen by most people as a rebel or someone who disrespected or did not appreciate the Star Spangled Banner. But let it be known that they are not kneeling to disrespect the many Americans that died for our rights.

In 1996, Mahmoud Adbul-Rauf began sitting for the National Anthem.

Those multi-millionaires and multi-billionaires, prima donnas whose egos are larger than the Pacific Ocean, keep insulting our flag and our country. When the Dallas Cowboys wanted to wear police decals on their helmets to commemorate the fallen officers, they were threatened with a fine, but it is okay to kneel when it is clearly a political expression.

Mike Conklin, 49, of Mesa, Arizona, an automotive technician and Trump supporter, scoffs at the idea of highly paid professional athletes spotlighting the issue of police brutality. The flag and the national anthem are symbols of our country and our unity. They must stand up because Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, Freddie Gray, Philando Castile and countless others were all Americans murdered by a corrupt system that refuses to be held accountable. One team, the Seattle Seahawks, declared collectively: "We will not stand for the injustice that has plagued people of color in this country".

"I don't think any of the protests are a stab at the troops", Townsend said.

"It was to signify Black Power, but more importantly, I pray every night for God to give me a pinnacle to give people hope", Newton said after the game, according to a video of his post-game press conference posted on the official Panthers site. We always have room for improvement.

Unions lambast Supreme Court decision to hear mandatory union fee case
But Justice Antonin Scalia's death led to a one-sentence 4-4 decision "by an equally divided Court". An Illinois case could mean huge changes for how public employee unions across the country operate.

This for taking a knee. "I think you risk upsetting more people than it's worth". Many of us have had to pay our tax money to support the construction of massive stadiums. USA Today maintains an NFL Arrest Database giving credence to the meme-maker's wry observation.

I would like to ask those players, what have you done for your country to make it better?

I see the irony: the foundation of these young men's right to free speech is the U.S. Constitution, which outlines the organizing principles of our nation. Like the adage says: "Rather than cursing the darkness, light a candle". Are they fighting now for a US eager to destroy ISIS, but reluctant to give refuge to the people fleeing the terrorist group? I will not go to any of their games, watch any of their sports, or purchase any of their products. They are actively using their rights, as well as their privilege and visibility, to stand up for their fellow Americans. We are the silent majority.

Whether or not the protests have any meaning to us, the players do have a right to make whatever statements they desire, and no institution or government should be allowed to restrain them.

"The league office will determine how to deal with any possible instance in which a player, coach or trainer does not stand for the anthem".

We may be divided on many issues.

There is no law mandating that anyone stand for the pledge of allegiance and, by extension, the national anthem.
