Saudi Arabia says to buy Russian Federation S-400 defence systems, other arms

Russia is satisfied with current oil prices and with the progressive balancing of the market, Alexander Novak, Russia's energy minister said Thursday.

Falih said MoUs would be signed with Russia's state nuclear agency Rosatom for the peaceful use of nuclear energy, alongside other deals for military industries and marine development.

The S-400 is Russia's most advanced long-range anti-aircraft missile system and can carry three types of warheads created to destroy targets including ballistic and cruise missiles.

The leaders and high-level representatives are expected to tackle what has positioned them on opposing sides of a bloody warfare in Syria.

Later the Saudi monarch invited President Putin to Riyadh. "The market can absorb it", he said, speaking at an energy forum in Moscow.

The Saudi monarch's decision to visit Russian Federation, now of all times, marks a new shift in Riyadh's foreign policy, Vyacheslav Smirnov, director of the Scientific and Research Institute for Political Sociology, told Radio Sputnik.

Russian analysts say that King Salman is seeking to diversify Saudi alliances because of uncertainty over Donald Trump's Middle East polices.

Gazprom Neft has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with Saudi Aramco, the national oil company of Saudi Arabia, to extend their partnership in oil and gas industry. "Falling back to the old scheme with decent US shale-supply growth expected for next year is not an option".

He also mentioned that Russian firms have been discussing possible future deals with energy giant Saudi Aramco, such as the provision of drilling services in Saudi Arabia and in crude trading.

"The lower price of oil means Saudi Arabia is permanently worse-off, but the government still spends as if it isn't", said Daoud. The heads of the countries of the Middle East maintain close ties with Moscow. "Previously, the primary focus of [Riyadh's] foreign policy was the [Middle Eastern] region and the United States".
