PAHO has intensified its cooperation with countries to prevent violence against women and children, developing tools, strengthening networks and coalitions, building capacities in the countries, and improving the availability of data.
The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (EVAW) was celebrated on Saturday in the capital of northern Balkh province, where more than 400 cases of crimes against the gender were recorded this year. Pakistan is the world's third most unsafe county for women. According to the United Nations, violence against women and girls across most countries include physical, sexual and psychological forms. In 2012, nearly half of all women who were victims of intentional homicide worldwide were killed by an intimate partner or family member, compared to six percent of male victims.
This violence, the most visible sign of pervasive patriarchy and chauvinism, directly impacts women's physical and psychological health.

Countries should also continue the actions recommended in regional and global strategies and plans of action, and work to achieve the violence-related targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the report concluded.
