A four-year-old Palestinian child died in the Gaza Strip yesterday after succumbing to wounds he sustained during the Israeli offensive in 2014 when he was just one years old.

Later, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed on Twitter that at least two missiles were launched from the Gaza Strip, but did not reach the country.

The Spokesperson's Unit also confirmed a third rocket that was sacked toward Israel and reached Israeli territory.

"The IDF holds Hamas responsible for the hostile activity perpetrated against Israel from the Gaza Strip", the army said in a statement.

Earlier in the day, Israel troops were heavily deployed on the outskirts of Gaza city in anticipation of any possible protests by Palestinians.

According to CNN, a fresh wave of violence has erupted following United States President Donald Trump' decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

"The spokesman also said the American administration and the occupying regime have regulated their regional policies based on "a wrong analysis of the region's developments", maintaining that the dire situation of the Middle East and the abnormal status of the Arab world would provide them with an opportunity to fulfil their long-term policies towards the Palestinian territories".

Dozens of Palestinians in Gaza also staged violent protests along the security fence surrounding the coastal enclave, throwing rocks and rolling burning tires at the barrier and the Israeli soldiers on the other side. The IDF confirmed the use of a tank and an IAF to strike Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip.

Trump's announcement, which was warmly received by Israel, overturns decades of precedent and runs counter to worldwide consensus, with no other country now taking the same stance.

On Wednesday, Trump announced the relocation of the USA embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem - a move which drew numerous negative reactions from Muslim communities around the world.
