Houston QB Savage goes to locker room after hit

Savage was injured when he was driven to the ground on a hit by Elvis Dumervil with about nine minutes left in the second.

Despite being taken to the injury tent to be evaluated, Savage came back into the game on the Texans' next possession. T.J. Yates - who finished the game in Savage's place - didn't notice anything unusual either. He is now officially out with a concussion.

"Disgusted that the @HoustonTexans allowed Tom Savage to return to the game after 2 plays after showing these horrifying #concussion signs (is that a seizure?) after a head impact", Chris Nowinski, co-founder of the Boston University's CTE Center, tweeted. But a Texans official grabbed Savage's arm and prevented him from going back on the field.

After being evaluated for a concussion following the hit, Savage returned to the field for one series - which probably was not a good idea. They have lost six players to concussions the past two weeks. Wrong! Savage returned to this meaningless game for a brief period before eventually leaving for the locker room. Houston lost linebacker Brian Cushing for 10 games because of a suspension for performance enhancers. Houston was already dealing with season-ending losses to star players Deshaun Watson and J.J. Watt.

Rookie Deshaun Watson took over at halftime of Houston's season-opener after Savage struggled and made the offense one of the NFL's most potent in six starts, but he tore his anterior cruciate ligament in practice on November 2. Colbert forced a fumble of DeAndre Hopkins and Lynch recovered.

Robbie Gould added a 35-yard field goal at the end of the second quarter to leave San Francisco up 13-9. He threw two incomplete passes as the Texans went three-and-out. We could not run the ball and that really hurt us.
