Why Eagles-Cowboys Still Matters

The 13-2 Philadelphia Eagles will look to have their best regular season in team history with a win over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 17. Redemption may be on the Cowboys' minds as well after losing the first meeting of the season 37-9 at JerryWorld.

Defensively, I don't believe that Doug Pederson should play his starters at all on Sunday. And they can sweep their six divisional matchups for the first time since 2004. For example, there are only eight offensive linemen and nine defensive backs on the roster, but often, at least five of each playing at a time. Regardless, the reality is some of the starters have to play. After a strong performance against the New York Giants in his first start of the season, Nick Foles looked terrible against the Oakland Raiders.

In spite of Foles's very lackluster performance, Pederson was impressed with his quarterback's resilience at overcoming his mistakes and finally putting his team in position to win late in the ball game.

Second-round draft pick Sidney Jones was making his National Football League debut and back-up quarterback Nate Sudfeld was making his National Football League debut, too. The difference is expectations are sky high for Jones, whereas Sudfeld is a total mystery. And if he performs well Sunday, his profile may be on the rise. Foles was excellent in his first start after Carson Wentz went down for the season, tossing four TD passes in a 34-29 win at the Giants on December 17. Wouldn't it be a good idea to play the offensive starters and get the offense in the best shape possible heading into the playoffs?

A sixth-round pick out of IN in 2016, Sudfeld has garnered quite a bit of attention. It's time to find out what all the commotion is about.

Erica Garner, Daughter of Eric Garner Dies at 27
Garner has relentlessly pursued justice not just for her father but for many other victims of police brutality. In 2015, New York City agreed to pay $5.9m (£4.4m) to his family after a civil lawsuit.

Expect players who are a little banged up right now to take a seat this week. Brandon Graham seemed to hurt his ankle Monday and is already out for Sunday's game. RB Jay Ajayi also was inactive.

That said, there seems to be nearly zero confidence in Nick Foles to lead the Eagles to a playoff victory. DT Fletcher Cox and S Malcolm Jenkins played one series.

How 'bout them Cowboys?

There was, of course, still one more game left on the slate, as the Cowboys had to travel to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles in their 2017 finale.

Running back Ezekiel Elliott, in his second game back from suspension, pounded out 103 rushing yards with another 38 gained receiving. Have thoughts on how the Cowboys and Eagles are performing? There were few redeeming qualities in a matchup between two of the NFL's biggest rivals, and anyone who paid a pretty penny for these tickets months ago had to be kicking themselves while freezing their butt off at the Linc. But he came up just short of the 1,000-yard mark for the season, wrapping up with 983 yards for the year.
