Blizzard and Twitch announce Overwatch League media partnership

The Overwatch League officially starts tomorrow with LA Valiants facing off against San Franciso Shock.

It was announced today at the Overwatch League media day by Nate Nanzer, Overwatch League commissioner, that the skins would be made available by the end of the day.

Activision Blizzard Inc. will televise matches for its new professional league for players of the video game Overwatch on Inc.'s Twitch, betting that fans of the service for gamers will embrace professionally produced competitions.

To actually purchase an Overwatch League skin just select on the team of your choice to bring up the character roster. The profits earned from these special skins sales-technically, $5 per skin-directly provide monetary support to both the teams and the developers.

"The Overwatch League is making a major impact on esports by reshaping the industry with city-based teams", said Twitch chief operating officer Kevin Lin said in a press release.

But the lack of clarity was also a cause for some concern among Overwatch fans, who have been left uncertain as to how they'd be able to watch the matches.

Natalie Portman's Golden Globes speech was very candid about an uncomfortable truth
And in case you weren't aware of that, Natalie Portman made sure to call it out during this year's Golden Globes . Only one woman has ever won the Golden Globes award for film directing in the show's 75 year history.

Future seasons of the league, although now not specified as to when, will move to arenas in the home cities of each team.

The Overwatch League is scheduled to begin on January 10. Activision Blizzard stated it will announce more details around these in-game rewards in the future.

"Our fans love to engage with content on Twitch, and we wanted to drive significant viewership of the Overwatch League in its inaugural season and beyond", said Armin Zerza, COO of Blizzard Entertainment. "Given Overwatch's consistent reign as a top viewed game by our community, we look forward to offering their pioneering style of league play to a large and passionate fanbase that will be able to bond over not only their favorite plays, but hometown pride".

For the inaugural season, all games will take place at Blizzard Arena Los Angeles, a state-of-the-art live-event venue in Burbank, California, custom-renovated for Blizzard Entertainment esports events.

Aside from the hundreds of new skins added to Overwatch, a slew of minor bugfixes have been pushed to the game.
