Seth Meyers Slams Weinstein and Spacey ... To Open Globes 2018

This image released by NBC shows host Seth Meyers at the 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif., on January 7, 2018.

"A lot of people thought it would be more appropriate for a woman to host tonight's show, and they might be right, but if it makes you feel any better I have absolutely no power in Hollywood", Meyers said, as the camera panned to Seth Rogen in the audience.

The actor was also roasted later in the monologue, when Meyers enlisted help from celebrities in the room to tell the punch lines of some of his jokes.

Luckily, Meyers has had plenty of experience walking a tricky tightrope as host of NBC's Late Night, where he has to grapple daily with an avalanche of political chaos.

Meyers' words are especially pointed given the often loose, celebratory style of seasonal awards shows and how hosts can often whiff when attempting to strike at the establishment. Grade Meyers' cold open and monologue via the poll below, then hit the comments to back up your choice!

The protest that turned the Globes dark on the fashion front had been anticipated for days after a call for massive reform following the downfall of movie mogul Harvey Weinstein and numerous others accused of sexual misconduct in Hollywood, media, fashion, tech, publishing and other industries.

Meyers then took a shot at Kevin Spacey.

The explosion occurred late on Sunday morning at the Varby Gard station, in Stockholm's south-west. According to Alvarsjo, hand grenades are increasingly used by criminal networks in Sweden.

Well, I think it's time to address the elephant not in the room.

Meyers said Weinstein would have his comeback to Hollywood "in 20 years when he's the first person ever booed during the In Memoriam". When you kick the whole speech off with the sentence "Good evening, ladies and gentleman", there's really no question as to what the tone is going to be. "Remember when he was the one making trouble with North Korea?" "For example, I was happy to hear they were going to do another season of 'House of Cards.' Is Christopher Plummer available for that too?"

As the gathered stars groaned, he added: 'It will sound like that'. I hope he can do a Southern accent, 'cause Kevin Spacey sure couldn't.

"Billy Eichner, who is openly gay, got the privilege of wrapping this joke: "'Call Me By Your Name" is nominated for Best Motion Picture.

And Late Night host Seth Meyers, who emceed the event, didn't let the opportunity to poke holes at the showbiz elite pass him by.

- "Considering what has been going on this year with powerful men and their bad behavior in Hollywood, a lot of people thought it would be more appropriate for a woman to host these awards, and they may be right". Said one source, "There's a rumor that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is having Harvey come to apologize".
