Icy conditions prompt special weather statement

A special weather statement for Mississauga and Brampton is warning residents of the potential for unsafe driving conditions as 'temperatures plummet, ' according to Environment Canada.

Temperatures are going to fall rapidly this morning, and that will cause all that rain to change to freezing rain.

Flooding was expected Friday morning in Drayton, primarily near the fairgrounds, with peak water levels expected during the early afternoon hours.

Away from the water, a flash freeze was expected to occur across southern Ontario late Friday afternoon as a cold front swept through the area.

"A very strong cold front will cross the region from northwest to southeast on Friday bringing an abrupt end to the mild spell".

The Grand River Conservation Authority has also issued a flood watch for the entire Grand River watershed.

Mainly sunny skies are in Friday's forecast and a high temperature of 11 C. "Snowfall amounts are expected to be limited to a few (centimetres)", Environment Canada's advisory read.

"Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery".
