Cardinals top coaching target 'expected to accept' Giants job if offered

The star wide receiver is "geeeked" in endorsing Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, who appears to be the Giants' choice for head coach.

Shurmur has been heavily linked with the New York Giants but that's not set in stone. The Giants cannon officially hire Shurmur until the Vikings' postseason run ends. Previously, he was at the helm with the Cleveland Browns, spending two seasons with the tumultuous franchise, going 9-23.

Vikings coach Mike Zimmer expects to lose Shurmur, sources told Mortensen.

Several of the Arizona Cardinals' head coaching candidates remain busy with their teams in the National Football League playoffs.

McDaniels was not one of the coaches Arizona met with in the first round of interviews.

Rapoport added that Shurmur is expected to accept the job, if offered.

Part of Shurmur's role as head coach will also be to minimize any distractions Beckham offers while trying to maximize his talent.

Trump threat angers Iran, dismays allies
Trump outlined four "critical components" that must be included in United States legislation regarding Iran. In other words, is Trump being tough on Iran, or is he just talking tough.

Shurmur was hired by the Vikings as tight ends coach in 2016 but was promoted to interim offensive coordinator midseason when Norv Turner resigned after a 5-2 start. Keeping Spags on as Big Blue's defensive coordinator could be a solution.

There is also Steve Wilks, the Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator.

Despite the disarray of the Giants' 3-13 2017 season, Shurmur will inherit a team with assets.

The Giants could cut high-priced players to create more cap space, but Manning isn't an economically viable candidate.

Should Odell Beckham and Brandon Marshall recover from season-ending injuries which exacerbated an already doomed season under Ben McAdoo, Shurmur will be expected to cultivate a risky Big Blue offense where his predecessor famously struggled.

"I expect us to be a good team in 2018", Mara said on December 29. And we do have some talent on this roster.

Shurmur takes over a talented Giants offense that features all-world WR Odell Beckham and emerging talents TE Evan Engram and WR Sterling Shepard.
