In step to national stage, a young Kennedy to rebut Trump address

Rep. Joseph Kennedy III will deliver the Democratic Party's response to President Donald Trump's State of the Union address next week.

In a news release, U.S. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., called Guzman a "respected civic leader whose values-based message propelled her to victory in the recent Virginia elections".

The Massachusetts congressman comes from one of the most prominent families in American politics as the great nephew of former President John F. Kennedy.

Kennedy represents a younger wave of Democrats in a party that some have criticized for its older leaders and potential 2020 presidential contenders who are all in their 70s.

The Boston Globe reported that Kennedy, who is 37, will take to national television to issue the traditional response to the president's speech. It's mandated by the Constitution, which says the president shall "from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient".
