England hotshot all-rounder Ben Stokes ruled the roost for the second year in succession while star Karnataka players commanded hefty price tags on the opening day of the IPL players auction here on Saturday.

Rising Pune Supergiant bought the troubled England all-rounder previous year for a record $2.16 million.

Having retained three capped India players each, Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, for instance, can not use the RTM to reacquire Ashwin and Harbhajan Singh respectively. While Ashwin goes for Rs. 7.60 Crores to King XI Punjab while Kieron Pollard from West Indies RTM by Mumbai Indians for Rs. 5.40 Crores.

Chennai Super Kings secured deals for Kedar Jadhav and Dwayne Bravo as their two most expensive purchases, while Delhi Daredevils acquired Australia's Glenn Maxwell for around £1m. Time and again and season after season, there has been a handful of uncapped players (without global cricketing experience, be it tests, ODI or T20) who not only outperform the expected bids but also go on to make a dent in the cricketing universe.

A top choice for any T20 team around the world, Chris Gayle is again expected to be at the centre of a bidding war among IPL franchises. Kolkata Knight Riders used the same approach of RTM to buy Robin Uthappa for Rs 6.40 crore. Even Royal Challengers Bangalore, for whom he has played many match-winning knocks, didn't raise a paddle for him. He had a base price of Rs 10 lakh.

Meehan: Former staffer that was paid settlement claim was his 'soul mate'
Republicans, however, have taken a more hands-off approach, citing Meehan's denials and saying they hope more facts will come out. A spokesperson for Meehan said called the payout "a settlement" while Meehan has called it a "severance agreement".

26 players from England, 58 from Australia, 30 from New Zealand and 57 from South Africa had registered for the auction, taking the overseas players to 282. So all those things put together the teams will weigh in to get him.

The first player to be auctioned was Shikhar Dhawan at a base price of Rs 2 crore. Last year Jason Roy went and sat on the bench for the Gujarat Lions, playing just three games, and when he came back to England he was completely out of nick and was dropped by England because he'd lost the rhythm of batting.

West Indian Chris Gayle, one of the IPL's star performers over the past decade, also went unsold in the first round. Two teams - Delhi Daredevils and Sunrisers Hyderabad, especially, showed great interest. "The IPL plays a big part in our lives". Like KL Rahul, Manish Pandey was sold for the same price of Rs 11 crore, to Sunrisers Hyderabad. Young Indian Batsmen Karun Nair was sold to Kings XI Punjab for Rs 5.60 Crores.

How many Right to Match (RTM) cards does each franchise have after retention? He duly delivered for Rising Pune Supergiant, emerging the player of the tournament.

Starc was also at the centre of some hot competition between Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab. The son of a vehicle wheel importer, Khan was bought for a sum of Rs 4 crore by SRH in the IPL 2017 auction. Sunrisers Hyderabad use RTM to retains Rashid Khan for Rs 9 crore.
