PM Modi keeps driving looking at rear-view mirror, says Rahul Gandhi

Rahul urged people to support the Congress party and Siddaramaiah in the upcoming election.

During his four-day visit, the first after being made All India Congress Committee chief, Rahul Gandhi will be visiting temples, mutts and a Dargah, along with addressing public meetings and conducting a road show by bus.

"I would like to remind PM Modi that his term has nearly ended and he should work to fulfil his promises", Gandhi said.

Gandhi's attacks on Modi on national issues as well as local ones in the run-up to the Karnataka assembly elections are aimed not just at retaining power in the state but also to mobilize support for next year's Lok Sabha polls.

Gandhi also claimed that the Modi government was slowly ignoring the loans of businessmen who had a debt of around Rs 10 lakh crore but was not ready to write off farmers debt.

Gandhi alleged that Modi had "personally" changed the contract during his visit to France to give it to a "friend" and said the prime minister had not answered the three questions posed by him on the deal.

Asserting that the state's Congress government is "pro-farmer and pro-poor", following the principles of 14th-century social reformer Basavanna, the Gandhi scion said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah responded to his request to waive loans of farmers in June previous year. "The BJP failed to create jobs, bring back black money and brought down the economy, but all Modi talks about is "Congress this, Congress that". Yeddyurappa had quit as chief minister on graft charges.

Gandhi's 30-minute speech in Hindi was simultaneously translated in the native language Kannada for the benefit of the audience.

The breakfast meeting was attended by PM Modi, Shah, and other top party leaders including Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley and Lal Krishna Advani.
