'Cobra Kai' teaser trailer reunites original 'Karate Kid' actors

During The Karate Kid's climax, Johnny clearly didn't want to follow his sensei's command to sweep Daniel's injured leg. Johnny knew it was wrong, but he did it anyway. The show is set in modern times, decades after the events of The Karate Kid movies.

Watch out for Cobra Kai on YouTube Red later this year.

Daniel is seen training someone and teaching the importance of balance. Played by original actors Ralph Macchio and William Zabka the two men find themselves now on opposite sides of a very familiar situation. This teaser shows Johnny reopening the fearsome Cobra Kai dojo, because there weren't enough bullying jerks in the world already, apparently.

Of course, an aspect of Cobra Kai that the teaser has yet to touch upon is that said rivalry will transcend generations as the respective children of Daniel and Johnny will continue the martial arts enmity.

'Fifty Shades Freed' Beats Bunnies and Heroes
The 15:17 to Paris launched day-and-date in 23 foreign markets, grossing $5.3 million for a global bow of $17.9 million. Fourth-place on the domestic charts will go to " Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle ", now in its eighth-week in theaters.

Strike first. Strike hard.

Since Johnny is telling his new pupils "We are not trained to be merciful here". Under the tutelage of their apartment complex's eccentric maintenance man Mr. Miyagi, Daniel learns about karate, and life, and ultimately faces and defeats Johnny in the All Valley Karate Tournament. Johnny and his friends walked away from Kreese after that, so hearing and seeing him as an adult bringing back the same school and same ideals that were so abusive to him as a child is jarring.

While it was assumed that Cobra Kai would manifest as a sequel that bears elements of self-parody, we see here that the rivalry between Daniel and Johnny - who seemed to reach a reasonable détente at the end of the first film - is somehow more heated than it was over 30 years ago. Or if such lines can be drawn at all.

Cobra Kai will arrive with 10 episodes on YouTube Red in 2018. Not exactly the most compassionate of life lessons.
