USA health officials reverse stance on AstraZeneca's flu vaccine

It's OK for doctors to start using a kid-friendly nasal spray flu vaccine again, a federal panel said Wednesday.

The flu shot may do more than just help protect you from the flu, it could apparently also be good for your ticker.

The flu vaccine is only 25% effective against the worst strain of the virus, according to a new report from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). In the meeting, the Stratford Health Department reported a downward trend in people seeking out flu shots over the past few years.

And Ricci says in general, frequent handwashing this time of year is important as well as staying home from work or school if you are ill, to keep these viruses from spreading.

Lexington's deadly flu season has already eclipsed last season's totals, and health officials are reporting additional cases.

Tillerson says US, Turkey 'will work together' in Syria
The Turkish minister also reported Mattis as saying the US was developing plans to take back weapons supplied to the Syrian Kurds. The US and Turkey, whose forces are at loggerheads in northern Syria, have agreed to try to defuse the crisis.

While seasonal flu outbreaks can happen as early as October, flu activity is usually highest between December and February, and can last through the spring. Interim findings show effectiveness for this year's flu vaccine was 36%, which was on the lower end of the typical range of flu vaccine effectiveness of 40-60%.

People in high risk groups listed above and those who live with or care for high risk individuals are especially encouraged to get vaccinated against the flu.

The number of flu-related deaths statewide is at 132.

Those numbers though are only for people who went to a doctor to get tested.

20, eight children and one pregnant woman were reported to have died as a result of the flu in the state of Tennessee.
