Body part found in hunt for missing Japanese woman

The torso was found on the ground and the arms covered with soil at the same location in Shimamoto.

The prefectural police believe all the newly found body parts are those of the missing woman and are working to confirm the body's identity.

Bayraktar is now being held on suspicion of murdering the 27-year-old woman, who has not been identified, but has not yet been charged with a crime.

The decapitated head was found over the weekend as police searched the apartment for signs of a missing 27-year-old woman who vanished after telling a pal she was meeting an American tourist she found online, The Ashashi Shimbun reported.

The camera also recorded a man believed to be Bayraktar carrying a large bag as he exited the building between February 16 and 18.

The man gave the police information that led them to mountainous areas of Osaka and Kyoto prefectures, where they found severed arms, legs and a torso, according to local news reports.

A surveillance video reportedly shows her walking with a man believed to be Bayraktar near Osaka's Morinomiya subway station.

Bayraktar was in Japan as a tourist, according to the newspaper. The Tokyo Reporter says no blood or other indications of a crime have been found at that apartment, with the Japan Times adding that a lot of air freshener had been used.

According to police, Yevgeniy Vasilievich Bayraktar, 26, of NY, has been taken into custody and is a suspect in the woman's murder.

The woman's head was found Saturday in a suitcase at a short-term lodging facility, or minpaku, in the Nishinari ward of the city of Osaka, investigators told the local news media.

The woman went missing after she left her workplace in Sanda on February 15. But she was never seen in subsequent footage, the Kyodo News agency reported, citing unnamed investigative sources.

Authorities received "a tip about Bayraktar confining the woman in the apartment".

The suspect has allegedly denied any connection with the case.

Sources told the Japan Times that other women had been seen with Bayraktar at the same apartment but were all confirmed alive and safe.
