What US will do to counter Chinese loans to Africa - Tillerson


Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday met behind closed doors with the U.S. Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Since taking office previous year, three of USA top officials - President Trump, Vice President Pence and Secretary Tillerson - have visited all regions- except Africa.

Trump administration officials said Sunday there will be no more conditions imposed on North Korea before a first-ever meeting of the two nation's leaders beyond the North's promise not to resume nuclear testing and missile flights or publicly criticize U.S.

He was billed to spend Monday night in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, before flying back to Washington.

"Due to demands in the Secretary's schedule, he is returning to the USA one day early after concluding official meetings in Chad and Nigeria", Under Secretary of State Steve Goldstein told reporters. Tillerson says the visa restrictions were necessary because of "all the conflict that exists on Chad's borders".

Meanwhile, the U.S. Secretary of State has expressed the hope that school girls from both Chibok and would be released peacefully through some sort of negotiation.

Mr Tillerson was also accompanied on the visit by his Chief of Staff, Margaret Peterlin; Colonel John Walker, as well as the U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Stuart Symington.

However, the specific deliverables of the trip, if any, remain unclear.

Tillerson said he had a good exchange with the Chadian authorities about the travel ban and that he wanted to assure the country that "the people of Chad are welcome in the United States".
