Alexa expands on Fire, iPad, Android tablets

You no longer need to hang around an Echo speaker to make free calls and messages with Alexa.

I knew from the very first time Alexa was launched into the market that the power assistant from Amazon will only get better.

The company said it would change the command to "Alexa, can you laugh?" While this is all good news for the Alexa app, there are a couple drawbacks and limitations we need to tell you about.

To indicate that Alexa is listening after completing her utterance, the blue light will be displayed for a few seconds. Otherwise, both smart speakers do have Amazon Alexa built-in, which allows you to ask Alexa to do a number of things, like finding out the weather, what's on your calendar, and even controlling your smart home. As usual, saying "stop", "cancel" or "go to sleep" will stop Alexa from listening.

Representative Adam Schiff , the top committee Democrat, strongly disagreed, and blasted the announcement as a premature shutdown. It will detail Russian cyberattacks on US institutions during the election and the use of social media to sow discord.

Today, however, in what is surely an attempt to clear the last remaining stock, you can now pick up one of these Ghost replica Bluetooth speakers for under £23 - a damn sight cheaper than they were at the end of a year ago.

Amazon has expanded access to its Alexa calling and messaging options to the iPad and other tablets, Engadget reports. How easy it is to make calls and send messages will largely depend on the device.

Users will need to download the Alexa app on iOS or Android to make this system work. The feat is limited to the US, Mexico or Canada for now. You also can use this feature if you have an Amazon Fire tablet.
