Arm Sales Gain US Far More Than Saudis!

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is opening a marathon tour of the United States with a stop in Washington, where he plans to meet Tuesday with President Donald Trump.

Trump gave a warm welcome at White House to the powerful Crown Prince and credited USA defence sales to the Saudis boosting American jobs.

Asked whether he was prepared to pull the United States out of the deal, Trump said "we're going to see what happens".

He told a crowd in the northeastern city of Mashad in a Persian New Year message that the United States would not achieve its goals in the region.

Mohammed later met with Republican Senators Dan Sullivan, Tom Cotton, and Lindsey Graham, along with Democratic Senator Joe Manchin, in talks which the Saudi embassy said showed the "multidimensional" nature of the kingdom's relations with the US. "And, also, get rid of all the threats facing our both countries and the whole world", Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said. Neither Mr. Trump nor his guest mentioned Yemen or the humanitarian crisis there to reporters, instead focusing on the huge increase in military hardware that Saudi Arabia is purchasing from the US, and the boon to the USA economy. The Saudis and their allies are fighting Iran-backed Houthi rebels, but global organizations have harshly criticized the coalition's airstrikes and blockading of Yemeni ports for contributing to thousands of civilian deaths and a humanitarian catastrophe.

Although the prince has won Western plaudits for seeking to ease Saudi Arabia's reliance on oil, tackle chronic corruption and reform the conservative Sunni Muslim kingdom, the severity and secrecy of his anti-corruption crackdown last November unnerved some in the West.

. He said a 10-year window for implementing the deal was already under way.

Both the Iran nuclear deal and regional coordination was expected to top the agenda at the vice president's dinner. Saudi Arabia, a decades-long U.S. ally, felt neglected by president Barack Obama's pursuit of a 2015 nuclear deal with Iran, Riyadh's regional rival.

Even as the crown prince joined Trump for a meeting and working lunch, Congress was discussing legislation to scale back USA military support for a Saudi-led coalition in Yemen, with a preliminary vote planned for Tuesday afternoon.

The visit has got lot to do with aligning Saudi Arabia and United States strategically against Iran, he noted.

Crown Prince Mohammed and Kushner have forged a close relationship, which has at times come under criticism in Washington for circumventing normal diplomatic channels.

Prince Mohammed's reformist message and the promise of Saudi investment in the United States has endeared him to the neophyte U.S. president - 39 years his elder - and America's own political princeling Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law.
