The company best known for its powerful graphics cards has in recent years waded into the self-driving auto waters, and it now counts over 370 partners in the space.
Nvidia today announced that it would suspend its testing of autonomous cars on public roads until it knows what went wrong last week, when a self-driven Uber vehicle featuring Nvidia's technology struck and killed a pedestrian in Arizona.
Nvidia is temporarily suspending its self-driving vehicle tests on public roads worldwide. "It's a reminder of how hard [self-driving car] technology is and that it needs to be approached with extreme caution and the best safety technologies", Nvidia said in a statement.
The decision comes following the fatal Uber crash in Arizona, which may not have been caused by the self-driving technology, but still yielded some pause from other self-driving vehicle makers. Ultimately [autonomous vehicles] will be far safer than human drivers, so this important work needs to continue.
The Nvidia DRIVE platform is now used by over 370 companies developing self-driving technology, including automakers and robotaxi companies and those making self-driving hardware, such as sensors, said Huang.
Today at GTC 2018, NVIDIA introduced its new cloud-based system for testing autonomous vehicles using a photorealistic simulation, NVIDIA DRIVE Sim software.
Census To Add Question On Citizenship Status
But opponents say the question will discourage immigrants from responding to the census. The White House says the decision to include a citizenship question in the 2020 U.S.

"Deploying production self-driving cars requires a solution for testing and validating on billions of driving miles to achieve the safety and reliability needed for customers", said Rob Csongor, vice president and general manager of Automotive at NVIDIA. The second contains a powerful NVIDIA DRIVE Pegasus™ AI auto computer that runs the complete autonomous vehicle software stack and processes the simulated data as if it were coming from the sensors of a auto driving on the road.
The simulation server is powered by NVIDIA GPUs, each one generating a stream of simulated sensor data, which then feeds into the DRIVE Pegasus for processing.
Last week, Toyota also halted its self-driving auto testing.
Uber proactively suspended self-driving operations in all cities following the accident.
