Pittsburgh hiring Duke associate head coach Jeff Capel

Last year, Wilson-Frame averaged 13 points and 3.5 rebounds per game in his first Division I season after transferring from Northwest Florida State junior college. "Pitt has a great tradition of success and I look forward to putting together a staff and team that will enable us to build on that tradition".

The win would have put Duke in its 17th Final Four. Evan Daniels of 247Sports reported it's a 7-year deal for the now-former Blue Devils coach, giving him ample job security. But Capel has been a successful head coach, with at least 18 wins in six of his first seven seasons (overlapping VCU and Oklahoma) and a.614 overall winning percentage if you give back the vacated wins from 2009-10. Capel went to one NCAA tournament with VCU in 2004.

Oklahoma lured Capel to a Power Five conference in 2006. Capel led the Sooners to a 30-6 record in the 2008-09 season but was sacked after OU went just 14-18 two years later.

Capel's tenure with the Sooners ended when he was sacked in March 2011 as part of the fallout from an NCAA investigation that discovered former Oklahoma assistant Oronde Taliiaferro broke NCAA rules by failing to report that a player had received an impermissible extra benefit and by lying to investigators.

Capel was not implicated on the violations from Taliaferro. Capel has been at Duke for seven seasons and his experience in the ACC figures to be a help for a Pitt team that went winless in conference this past season.

Now that Pitt has hired Jeff Capel, the question now turns to which players from last year's team will be returning?

The Kansas Jayhawks defeated the Duke Blue Devils 85-81 in the 2018 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament Midwest Regional at CenturyLink Center on Sunday.

Now, comparing recruiting at Duke and Pitt is a little like contrasting apples and oranges, but still, Capel clearly connects with high school kids and knows the ACC landscape.
