Volkswagen Unveils Newest Atlas Cross Sport SUV Concept

"Although there are now no production plans for the Atlas Tanoak, Volkswagen is keen to gauge the reactions of buyers and media, since pickup trucks are one of the biggest volume segments in the United States".

The thesis of the Volkswagen Atlas SUV was to build a vehicle tailored to American tastes. Despite the shared roots, the Tanoak is 214.1 inches long, meaning it has 15 inches on the Atlas SUV.

On Wednesday, the company is expected to show a concept of a midsize pickup truck based on the Atlas which could be assembled in Chattanooga should VW make that investment.

But offering a pickup based on the Atlas platform is the only feasible way VW could attack the pickup truck market in the U.S. The company sells the Amarok overseas. At the back, there's a 64-inch long bed, while the cabin has room for five.

Although Volkswagen has been offering the Volkswagen Amarok pickup truck, the truck was never offered here in the U.S. but it looks like Volkswagen will be joining the pickup war here in the USA soon as a new report suggests that they will be showing off a new pickup truck at the New York Auto Show.

3 things we learned from Netherlands vs England
Meanwhile, former Southampton and Everton manager Koeman said: "Defensively we played quite well, but didn't create many chances". We are going to have to get used to them taking risks in that area of the pitch, because that's the way we want to play.

It looks beefier than the Atlas from the side, with the wheel arches scoring more cladding for greater muscle, swallowing the 20-inch wheels and 275/55 tyres easily. The cab and bed are painted in Red Earth.

In the looks department, the Cross Sport concept features a two-bar grille rather than the three-bar grille of the current Atlas, and the grille crossbars are illuminated to as LED Daytime Running Lights. Even better, just like cars have offered "ski hatches" that allow pass-through from the trunk to the cabin, the Atlas Tanoak has a hatch behind the cab which allows even longer cargo to run right through. The active LED lighting features are replicated at the rear. The digital instrumentation that replaces the analog gages is a league ahead of what just about every truck out there offers today, while VW's infotainment system gets a big touchscreen to play with in the center console.

The centre console features a newly designed shifter grip for the eight-speed automatic gearbox while the Active Control modes can be selected via a metallic slider and has been created to be used even when the driver is wearing work gloves. Meanwhile, the interior caters to the fans of technology and luxury that enjoy the feeling of being pampered after a long day of experiencing the many splendors of the American outdoors.

The Atlas Cross Sport Concept uses the same 3.6 litre V6 FSI engine as the Atlas, which makes 276 hp and 361 Nm of torque.

It's not clear when or if a plug-in Atlas model would go on sale, although Volkswagen reiterated its plans to put a production version of its 200-plus-mile ID Crozz all-electric compact crossover on sale during 2020.
