Fists come out as Bruins fight their way into first place

Tampa has a star studded offense, a great defense, and a goaltender in Andrei Vasilevskiy who has had a Vezina caliber season but he will face off against a Bruins side that has been even stingier in the defensive zone and has the second fewest goals against in the entire National Hockey League.

The Lightning will play arguably its biggest regular season game of the year tonight in Boston against the Bruins, which are just one point behind for the Atlantic Division lead. The fact remains that with six games left to go in the season, there they sit.

Red Wings snap streak • Anthony Mantha scored his team-leading 24th goal and the visiting Detroit Red Wings snapped an 11-game road losing streak by beating the last-place Buffalo Sabres 6-3.

Tim Schaller and David Pastrnak scored goals in the final minute of the first period to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead. Boston outshot Tampa Bay 16-6 in the first period, and only the final two shots found the back of the net.

J.T. Miller scored a power-play goal for Tampa Bay in the second and Victor Hedman added a goal in the third.

For at least two nights, the B's will be in control of the top seed in the Eastern Conference after defeating the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-2 on Thursday night at TD Garden. Then the Lightning would score again to make it a 3-2 game.

Schaller put Boston up 1-0 after stealing the puck from Ryan McDonagh just inside the blue line and started a 2-on-1 break with Tommy Wingels, who got off a shot as Schaller crashed the net and poked in the rebound.

The game paused for a few minutes with 8:44 left in the second after Rask took a few shots at Conacher when he was slow to get up after getting tangled with Brandon Carlo in the crease.

They have 107 points, one ahead of the Lightning, and still have a game in hand. "He (Rask) stood up for himself and obviously guys will jump in if necessary". Boston improved to 7-1-0 in its past eight against Tampa Bay. He ranks seventh in franchise history in games played, and will move into sixth after he plays four more games. The Bruins haven't lost in regulation since Florida shut them out 3-0 on March 15.
