Forecasters: Strong storms possible in Deep South

Tuesday, a strong cold front will sweep across the region during the day bringing a fast-moving line of storms. Damaging winds, large hail and a few tornadoes are expected in the moderate risk area this afternoon and into the evening hours.

Most of Central Maryland and the Eastern Shore will experience strong gusty winds upwards of 30-40 miles per hour with an occasional gust over 40 miles per hour in any of the stronger storms. Timing puts the storms through the area between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. However, there will still be a significant threat for severe storms west of I-65 through midnight.

We will have a cold front track through Central Alabama. Some WAFB communities could still be dealing with lingering backside showers behind the front during the morning, but we expect the rain and clouds to be out of the area by midday with sunshine and blue skies, with picture flawless weather for Wednesday afternoon.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed an ENHANCED RISK for severe storms over the entire WMC Action News 5 coverage area.

Today, winds are expected to increase with gusts up to 40 miles per hour.

In addition to the severe weather threat, flooding will remain an ongoing issue.

At this time, we will just have to wait and see if the cluster of storms survives and reaches our area late this afternoon.

Look for colder temperatures Wednesday with rain mixing back to snow showers.

Now we are seeing occasional showers from a warm front surging through the area. That means that any storms that develop could become strong or potentially severe.

Thursday: Mostly sunny with a high near 57 degrees. Most of Friday will be dry with another round of showers arriving Friday night into Saturday morning. Temperatures will warm to the upper 70s again!
