Allardyce: Rooney had done his job

Sam Allardyce defended his decision to take Wayne Rooney off in yesterday's Merseyside derby saying that his substitutions proved to be a turning point for his team in the game.

"Davy Klaassen is still an anomaly to me, as to will he or won't he?" explained Allardyce. Yes, they are all midfielders, but seeing those three as interchangeable pieces really just indicates to me that your tactical instructions are no more complicated than just telling the midfield "hey, you three, stand in the middle and pass the ball".

However, Allardyce played down the 32-year-old's response, which he attributed to his passion for the club.

Asked if Rooney still has a future at Goodison, Allardyce replied: "Oh yes, there's no doubt about that".

A heavy defeat would have been the ultimate act for Allardyce, who's in a loveless marriage with Evertonians and certainly can not be in cost subsequent season.

Lewis Hamilton to hold crisis talks with Mercedes team
Lewis Hamilton is already thinking about the Formula 1 Drivers' world championship despite the 2018 season being just two races old.

'He didn't play very well in the first half against Manchester City but, before that, he had been outstanding and we had been a little bit short in midfield in recent weeks anyway.

"That's the beauty of our matrix of statistics today, which backs up your eye and gives you the information for what you've looked at because emotions in the game can sometimes be a little more exaggerated than what the statistics actually show so they don't lie". When those stats match what I've seen, for any player, it's where we make our decisions. When those stats match what I've seen, for any player, it's where we make our decisions.

"And when that continues to happen - no matter who it is, whether it's Wayne, Phil Jagielka, Tom Davies or whoever - you get left out of the team".

Sam Allardyce is getting fired this summer. Nothing. The excessive level got here on the opening day in August, when Wayne Rooney's second debut was a goalscoring one however, be practical, exclusively these with photographic reminiscences will recollect it in 20 years. If the issue is, like Sam said, about players' legs then he [Rooney] needs players around him who have legs.
