Toxicology tests found Jennifer Hart had an alcohol level of 0.102, said California Patrol Capt. Bruce Carpenter.

In California, a person is legally drunk if they have a BAC of.08 or higher.

Her wife, Sarah Hart, had a significant amount of the ingredient in Benadryl in her system, as did two of the children, CHP said.

The sheriff's office released a statement Thursday saying that along with various personal items found that were consistent with a family traveling on vacation, there were several items positively identified by relatives as belonging to the Thottapilly family.

The California Highway Patrol said that witnesses have told them they saw a SUV matching the description of the one owned by the Thottapilly family rolled through a highway pullout, slam into trees as it went down a 150-foot embankment and crash into the swift-moving waters of the Eel River. Toxicology results for a third child killed are still pending, Carpenter said.

The Harts moved last spring to Woodland, Washington, telling their real-estate broker "they needed a fresh start" after experiencing prejudice in Minnesota and too much media attention in OR after one child was pictured in a viral photo taken at a 2014 police-brutality protest. Carpenter said "a lot about this case is unusual. baffling nearly". Investigators have said they believe the missing children were inside the vehicle at the time of crash.

The bodies of Jennifer and Sarah Hart were found March 26 inside the family's SUV, which had crashed at the rocky shoreline below a cliff in Mendocino County. Three other children, Hannah, 16, Devonte, 15, and Sierra, also 15, are missing. A search for the vehicle was called off when it became too risky for rescuers. The multiracial Hart family lived together in three states, and officials investigated child-abuse allegations in each, including one that prompted an official from Washington's Child Protective Services to visit their Woodland house right before they drove off for California.

Devonte drew national attention after he was photographed in tears while hugging a white police officer during a 2014 protest.

A family of four taking a West Coast road trip vanished about 30 miles from the site of the Hart family crash, authorities said this week.
