Four inmates were killed by a pair of prisoners in the state's Kirkland Correctional Institution past year.
No additional details were immediately provided on the cause of the incident at the prison.
Prisons spokesman Jeff Taillon announced the deaths after state police helped secure Lee Correctional Institution in the early hours of Monday.

In the Department of Corrections September accountability report, officials said the state agency is working on the analysis, recruiting and retention of officers. The prison in Bishopville, S.C., about 60 miles northeast of Columbia, houses about 1,600 male inmates.
Lee Correctional Institution has had inmate issues in the past.

"While security cameras can not replace uniformed positions, the presence of such technology will enhance the safety and security of our institutions by allowing observation of areas inadequately staffed due to the lack of uniformed positions".
Stirling says access to cell phones allows inmates to continue criminal activities behind bars all across the country.
"There's nothing here for us to do", the inmate said.
"These folks are fighting over real money and real territory when they are incarcerated", Stirling said.
"We did everything we could to get there.as quickly as possible,"Stirling said".
