Netanyahu Heads for Putin Talks After Trump Pullout from Iran Deal

Tensions between the two countries escalated on Tuesday when Israel said it had detected "irregular Iranian activity" in the occupied Golan Heights region of Syria.

In a statement, the army said its troops are on high alert for an attack and defense systems have been deployed.

Reuters quoted Israeli military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Conricus as saying Israel intercepted "a few" of the rockets and there were no reports of casualties and that damage to Israeli positions was "limited". The Quds Force, an external arm of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, carried out the rocket salvo, Israel said.

The US-led coalition fighting ISIS inside Syria said Tuesday that they have seen "no change" in the behavior of Iranian backed forces inside Syria in recent days.

Al-Ikhbariya TV said Israel also targeted military posts in southern Suweida province, including an air base, and struck near Homs in central Syria.

"The Israel Defense Forces is taking action at this moment against Iranian targets in Syria".

Belonged to Syria since 1944, the Golan heights were captured by Israel in the six day war of 1967. In 1981, Israel's Knesset (parliament) passed a law on the Golan Heights unilaterally proclaiming Israel's sovereignty over this territory.
