The Noblesville Fire Department tweeted Friday morning that it was on an "active shooter" scene at Noblesville West Middle School and that a suspect was in custody.

Mayor John Distler said the community is just beginning to cope with what happened. Hospital officials told CNN that at least three people, including one adult were being treated.

Student Austin Duncan said in an interview with local broadcaster WTTV that occupants of his classroom barricaded a door and huddled together in a panic during the shooting incident while a teacher grabbed a baseball bat for protection.

Noblesville is about 25 miles northeast of Indianapolis.

Not many details are known yet, but police have a suspect in custody in yet another school shooting in Indiana.

Parents can pick up high school and the West middle school students when the threat is cleared, Noblesville Schools said in the email. "We know there are also many other victims as well, students that observed this, teachers that observed this, law enforcement officers that observed this, and we're gonna try to get through it". "We have multiple officers and a command post established at the high school and they are diligently ensuring the safety of the students and the staff".

Authorities were working to secure the high school Friday.

Niedermeyer said the hospitals have asked the victims' friends and loved ones to send them well-wishes by texts, emails, or cards, but to stay away from the hospitals, "and let the families have some peace at this time".
