Move to Vermont, make up to $10,000


Eligible workers can receive $10,000 over two years to cover relocation expenses or work-related costs.

To be eligible, you will need to become a full-time Vermont resident on or after January 1, 2019. The grants will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis next year, and there's only $125,000 in grant money available in 2019.

Starting next year you can get paid to move to Vermont and work remotely.

If you're a remote worker, you're in luck.

Those who relocate and take part in the program need to be full-time employees of a business based outside of Vermont and need to be able to work remotely.

"This could also help to attract workers here, while still maintaining their positions in cities such as Boston and NY, as well as assist transition issues faced by many trailing spouses", said Ashley Romeo-Boles, the government affairs specialist of Vermont Chamber of Commerce Senate Economic Development, Housing and General Affairs Committee.

Romeo-Boles said that the flexible remote work arrangement allows businesses to retain their older workers who also want to continue their careers. In March, Governor Scott and the Vermont Division of Tourism and Advertising introduced the so-called Keep-to-Keep initiative, which is meant to assist vacationers relocate to the state.

Vermont's population of 625,000 people is aging faster than the rest of the U.S. population.

"Lots of people are interested in moving to Vermont, and this is a way to recruit them to the state", Goldstein said.

However there could be tax implications if one lives in one state while working in another. In 2021, the available funds will decrease to $125,000, and then to no more than $100,000 in the years that follow.

Tourists who plan their trips to the state during one of the designated weekends from April to October have the opportunity to network with employers, entrepreneurs, and realtors.
