ABC recently reported that Griezmann was ready to stay at the Wanda Metropolitano despite Barcelona's interest (h/t Jorge Garcia of AS).
The 27-year-old forward - a Europa League victor with Atletico in 2017-18 after scoring 29 goals in all competitions - has a reported €100million release clause.
It remains to be seen whether a public endorsement from Messi might go some way to swaying Griezmann, with the five-time Ballon d'Or victor believing that the pair would work well in tandem.
"He's a great player and we would understand each other".

Though he went only 3-of-8 from the field and 1-of-5 from 3-point range in the first quarter, Curry also had five assists. Smith at the end of regulation, and the melee surrounding the expulsion of Tristan Thompson in an overtime.
Griezmann, 27, is still to decide whether to join Barca in a €100 million move or remain at Atletico, with the France worldwide saying he expects to make a final decision ahead of this summer's World Cup.
"He's going through an exceptional moment in his career".
Griezmann is widely regarded as one of the best players in the world, having been a pivotal figure for club and country for several years. "United have a very good relationship with Dortmund, the teams were talking more closely [but] he chose to go to Arsenal instead".
It isn't clear yet whether Arsenal will be able to agree a deal with the experienced midfielder, and any decision is likely to wait until after the World Cup.
The pursuit of Griezmann may well be with the future in mind, though; the Atletico man is 27, whereas Suarez and Messi will both be 31 by the time next season starts.
