There are fears that demonstrations during Trump's three-day visit to the United Kingdom from Thursday could turn violent.

On the planned protests, the ambassador said that Trump appreciated free speech and dismissed as "irrelevant" a giant balloon of Trump depicted as a crying baby in nappies which will fly next to the British parliament on Friday.

"Numerous demonstrations are being planned for July 12 to 14, 2018, surrounding the visit of the President of the United States to the United Kingdom", the U.S. embassy said in the alert on its website.

The tweet sparked a response from everyone including Theresa May and then Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt, who retweeted Trump's quote with the comment: 'I may disagree with claims made on that march but not ONE of them wants to live in a system where 28 million people have no cover.

Mr Trump's planned visit has been met with plenty of anger, with 50,000 protesters expected to take to the streets of central London on Friday.

Trump flies in after the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Brussels and leaves Britain on Sunday for talks in Helsinki the following day with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Then, on Friday, he meets the Queen at Windsor Castle before making his way to Scotland for the rest of the visit.

It has vowed to gather near the USA ambassador's residence in London, where Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will stay Thursday night, and outside Blenheim Palace, wartime leader Winston Churchill's birthplace, which hosts the pair for dinner prior.
